2008

.

2008 was another great year for Catawba Salkehatchie.  With 41 campers we were a little smaller than normal but that didn't curb our enthusiasm for serving God in the community.  Our theme this year was "Everyday People," that's who we are and that's who we serve.

All of the 5 homes we worked on this year were in Lancaster County; another thing that was out of the ordinary.  What a difference you can make in structures and lives when we let God be our guide and follow his will.  There were dramatic improvements in all of the homes but more importantly relationships were formed that will last for eternity.

What a wonderful time we had this year with our music and programs.  Having Chris Hughes with us for two nights was fantastic; adding to Mr. Ed's already lively show case.  The excitement of music and ministry presented by Grace Community was uplifting and the meal they helped prepare allowed our Catawba Staff an opportunity to relax and enjoy the pool along with our campers.  I had never heard of a "water hat" before but thanks to Geoff we were introduced and had great fun getting wet.

The memory that will always stick with me though is the cross illuminated with your candles during our sending forth and commitment service on Sunday night.  What a beautiful sight; we never anticipated that consolidating our lights on the cross would be so moving.  Please don't let that light go out.  I hope that you have placed your candle where it can remind you daily to shine your light for Christ.

As always the members  of Pleasant Hill have enjoyed hosting the Catawba Salkehatchie Camp and look forward to 2009.  We have already started making plans with one of the first things considered being your suggestions.  Look for a return of the Catawba Olympics next year, we will mix it up!!!!

In closing I would like to thank the other Methodist Churches that help with meals and supplies - Osceola, Belair, St. Johns Fort Mill, Philadelphia, Grace Community and First United Methodist of Lancaster.  Their support and help is a blessing for us.  Also a special thanks to the Springs Recreation Complex for allowing us to use their showers and for opening the pool and patio area for cook-out on Wednesday night.

See you in 2009; tell your friends and invite those you know from other Methodist Churches in your area.
